The theme of the competition was "how to use lighting in order to help retail sales." Rather than use a solution which used many luminaires, high lighting levels, and thus high amounts of power to compete with neighboring retail displays, this solution was designed to appeal to the viewer's curiosity. The element on display is hidden in a box with only a few viewing holes. This allows one to use only a few low powered luminaires, yet be able to play with contrast and use one's preffered light levels without interference from the light of the surrounding displays.
